IBioIC at Scotland Policy Conferences on climate change policy

IBioIC’s Technical Director Ian Archer took part in a Scotland Policy Conferences seminar on ‘Next steps for climate change policy in Scotland - the strategy for decarbonisation and achieving net-zero, just transition, and adaptation and resilience’.

The conference included speakers of note from across the climate change debate, including an opening keynote from Professor Jim Skea, the Chair of the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Commission on ‘Meeting the ambition for a net-zero Scotland by 2045 and key findings from the Just Transition Report’.

IBioIC’s Ian was on the second panel of the day, which was looking at ‘decarbonising Scotland’s energy system - renewables rollout, developing low-carbon heat, and managing transition across industry sectors and communities’ and openly discussed the opportunity for Scotland to embrace establishing a sugar beet supply chain in Scotland.

Joining Ian, was Mike Tholen, Sustainability Director, OGUK and Andrew Lyle, Chief Executive Officer, Locogen; and Vice-Chair, Scottish Renewables. Other speakers throughout the day included Scottish Government, National Farmers Union (NFU) Scotland the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA). The conference was chaired by two MSPs respectively, the first session by Gillian Martin, SNP MSP for Aberdeenshire East, and the second by Maurice Golden, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East Scotland region.
