Growing the bioeconomy

Net Zero Chemical Manufacturing

On 14 September, the Bioeconomy Cluster Builder joined forces with the Chemical Industries Association to deliver the online event ‘Net Zero Chemical Manufacturing’. We welcomed over 200 attendees to look at the opportunities to unlock the power of biotechnology to improve the environmental performance of the UK chemicals industry. IBioIC also launched a dedicated chemical manufacturing funding call to support the event, and we were delighted that Sustainable Sailing was successful in being awarded funds to support development of their sustainable solution for recycling end-of-life yacht sails.

Engaging with textiles sector

In September, the BCB team attended the UKFT Sustainability in UK Textiles Conference in London. This was a prime opportunity to build connections and share knowledge with textiles stakeholders, and it was good to see a clear direction of travel towards bio-based value chains within textiles industry. Plans are in progress to develop follow on engagements in early 2024 and we are in ongoing discussions with a Scottish weaver looking to develop bio-based replacement for current petrochemical fibre.
