Scottish Start-up MI:RNA Ltd named as Deep Tech Pioneers

MI:RNA Ltd, a spin out from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), were chosen to join the prestigious community of Deep Tech Pioneers at Hello Tomorrow’s Global Summit in Paris at the start of December.

The summit, held annually, pairs a cross section of the world’s most disruptive tech start-ups with like-minded investors. This creates a unique forum for innovation and collaboration across a range of topics such as sustainable food systems, carbon capture, aerospace and the transition to renewable energy. MI:RNA were appointed as one of a small group of Deep Tech Pioneers, despite stiff rivalry from over 4000 competing entries from across the world. The event began with an investor day, allowing these start up entrepreneurs to meet face to face with key, aligned investors and stakeholders. This was followed by a two-day conference, headlined by some of the leaders in the tech space, giving a thorough and compelling insight into the future of technology and investing ‘for good’.

MI:RNA impressed the selection committee with their climate tech message, combining cutting edge diagnostics with the use of precision medicine to tackle disease in production animals. This novel approach will improve productivity, animal welfare and consumer confidence, resulting in sustainable agriculture for future generations. In particular, MI:RNA head up an ambitious project with their research colleagues at SRUC with a plan to revolutionise Johne’s disease detection in cattle The project has attracted Innovate UK funding through the farming innovations pathways program.
