Scottish Start-Up MI:RNA Ltd win award with a live pitch at innovation summit

MI:RNA Ltd, an innovative veterinary diagnostics company focusing on early disease detection, have continued their great start to 2022 by picking up another award. The company won a best pitch trophy in the technology stream at the recent Animal Health, Nutrition & Technology Innovation Europe summit. Founder & CEO Dr Eve Hanks secured the award from the judges with a live pitch at the event in London.

Now in its 7th year, Animal Health, Nutrition & Technology Innovation Europe is the sector’s premier Innovation Summit showcasing the most exciting investment opportunities globally and connecting businesses with investors and strategic corporate partners.

The judges loved the innovative approach used by MI:RNA to tackle the issue of early disease detection. From a simple blood sample, this novel technology using nucleotide biomarkers and a bespoke AI system can detect subtle changes in expression which allows identification of early stage disease.

This proven technology is now available to detect heart disease in cats and dogs, further research is also underway to adapt this test to tackle Johne’s disease in cattle. In theory, this technology could be applied to almost any disease type and species, a very exciting scientific breakthrough.

Dr Hanks was thrilled to be selected by the Judges who stated that the company offered a very attractive prospect for investment. She said: “there were some fantastic ideas and a lot of really passionate entrepreneurs at the two-day conference and it was a pleasure to be part of such an amazing event which brings so many people together from across the industry.”

This win couldn’t have come at a better time for the company as they head out looking to raise £2 million in their seed investment round.
